Love it! Although you do look a little like Mrs. Roper. You are far too young to know who she is. Happy birthday honey!
ReplyDeleteTotally Mrs. Roper. Happy Birthday!
ReplyDeleteHa! Mrs. Roper! But Cami rocks this whole look for sure. Happy birthday!
ReplyDeleteYES - Mrs. Roper all the way!

Hey there Cami, I don't even know you but I read dooce all the time. I LOVE the colors on this dress. And Happy Birthday to you and thanks for helping to keep Heather sane.
ReplyDeletewho cares? really?
ReplyDeleteYou do, anonymous! Look at you go!
ReplyDeleteActually, this outfit hangs together better than a lot of them do. The dress and the shoes, and then the bag and the scarf and the sunglasses, and the black in the dress connecting the two sets. I think I like it all together more than I would any one piece alone. Good one.
ReplyDeleteI love me some Dooce, but this outfit doesn't communicate "don't care what anyone thinks." it seems to communicate more of "attention, attention, i want your attention. i need it. i need it."
ReplyDeletei am sorry if my comment seems mean, but really, i think that there needs to be a clarification of what this outfit, and many others, are actually communicating.
communication is not just based on intention. it is a two-way street, sistahs.
check it.
Blerg. Who is this person?
DeleteYou look great Cami, as always.
I would also argue that the rampant and compulsive desire for strangers' attention is not a need or quality that one would want to impart on the youth. all human beings crave attention, but such ridiculous costume-ery just makes it seem like the wearer of the costume is wearing his or her history of insufficient parental or familial attention on his or her proverbial sleeve. a long, moo-moo-like psychedelic sleeve, of course.
ReplyDeleteI would like to argue that "If you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all" IS a lesson we do want to impart on "the youth". Commenting on someone's blog using the handle "Anonymous" and attempting to psychologically diagnose them and infer that you know anything about their family or upbringing makes you seem incredibly petty and bitter. Perhaps your time could be better spent on reading blogs that you find enriching and enlightening instead of trying to ruin someone else's day. I too read Dooce and linked here to see what Cami's birthday outfit looked like and even though it isn't something I would personally wear I applaud her for wearing whatever she wants and whatever makes her feel great. More people should have the courage to own their own style even if it might not be mainstream. How judgmental of you to anonymously attack her on such a personal level. You should be ashamed.
DeleteHow about if she's wearing it just because she likes it? Nothing wrong with that.
DeleteAaaaaand BAM! Right on, Sarah! And I have to applaud YOU for your response. While I might not necessarily wear this outfit, it is Cami's right to wear what she likes. It takes all kinds, and all. Plus it's her stinkin' birthday! Why hate on someone on their special day, hidey anonymous person? Huh? HUH?
DeleteSo colorful! I love it.
ReplyDeleteLove & Labels
Come on, y'all. It is her birthday. Cut the girl some slack. And if you don't have anything nice to say, the old adage remains: don't say anything at all.
ReplyDeleteCami -- you're rocking it!
When a man loves a peahen ...
ReplyDeleteRock it! & Happy Birthday! Love to ck in & see what you're wearing....always a treat
ReplyDeleteSinging in a loud and happy voice...."Its your birthday and you can wear what you want to. Wear what you want to....."
ReplyDeleteHappy 24th, Cami!!!
This outfit is GLORIOUS, I want it right now! So beautiful, you work that really well. Gorgeous colours, amazing collar. HAPPY BDAY! Love from the UK! Lucy xxx
ReplyDeletewhy do you keep showing this chick dressed up in goofy outfits?
ReplyDeleteCami -- I read Dooce every day! I love your style! Happy B'day and don't lose that wonderful spirit of yours!!
ReplyDeleteI am pretty sure that anyone can close their eyes and reach into their closet and wear anything they grab and call it FASHION. You look unkept, classless, and ridiculous. And don't even get me started on the messy, chemically-fried hair...or the extra 15 pounds you're carrying. You're not a model, you're a mess.
ReplyDeleteum ya
DeleteAll these Anonymice are giving me a bad name. I'm the Anonymous who thinks you're lovely and don't give a shit about becoming a clone or "What Not to Wear". It might not be everyone's tastes, but how can this matter? I think it's fun to see how others throw outfits together.
DeleteAs for this whole nonsense about how it's all about attention-seeking, my heavens, SO WHAT. One could successfully argue that commenting on blog posts (or having a Twitter account, or a Facebook account) is as much about attention-seeking as it is about self-expression. SO WHAT?
I'm all for people dressing the way they want to dress, and for humourless critical self-satisfied jerks to go back to caring too much what other people think.
Woweeeeee I mangled my second sentence. I meant to say "thinks you're lovely and that it's great that you don't give a shit about becoming a clone or following the strict and ridiculous 'rules' from 'What Not to Wear'"
DeleteRah!
Well, she did sign an honor code for her school - could have gone elsewhere to school and been free to wear whatever the hell she wants.
DeleteYeah, or gone to the school of her choosing and consciously accepted the rules there, and then dressed however the hell she wanted outside of school. What's yer actual point?
DeleteWow, how rude can you possibly be? I'm pretty sure you are not the picture of perfection yourself. Just because you are hiding behind your computer screen doesn't mean you can be so incredibly hurtful. Why even say those things? How about thinking them and moving on rather than intentionally trying to hurt someone you don't even know.
DeleteGo Cami! Some of those Anonymous folks out there are giving Anonymous a bad name. (And they're forgotten their manners) Happy Birthday. I love seeing ALL those outfits!
ReplyDeletewhy are people so awful? really? why the need to be mean-spirited?
ReplyDeletecami, i love that you wear what you damn well want to wear. we should all be so bold.
You are your own living breathing birthday party! Happy happy day!
ReplyDeleteYou are perfect and amazing x
ReplyDeleteHoly cow ... some of you guys are really hateful. Just because a person puts themselves out for public consumption doesn't necessarily mean they are inviting mean-spirited criticism. Kindness matters, people... let's all try to be kind to one another.
ReplyDeleteLOVE that purse and am inspired by the fact that you wear clothes you love, regardless of what others say. You are truly unique. Happy birthday :)
ReplyDeleteThe great thing about Cami is that she does not give a flying fuck what people think about her or what she wears. She celebrates her life and who she is through fashion. If only I had been so accepting of myself (and others) at 24. Cami amazes me. Anyway, it doesn't really bother her when you hurl insults (although, I know she appreciates the compliments). Love you Cami! Hope the birthday was fabu!
ReplyDeleteDooce-Cami-Stacia stick together. Rawr! Maybe Cami should have made a duck face in the picture...
DeleteShe's 24?!? Jesus, I would have guessed 10 years older, at least.
DeleteCami, I wrote on Dooce's post awhile back stating that I didn't like the frequency you appeared in her blog. Well, I am an asshole. I love your attitude and your view on life and think you are great! Happy Birthday, Cami!
ReplyDeleteSorry.
Kristen
I love this comment. Kristen, you are awesome to apologize. Most people don't. Love.
DeleteHappy birthday, beautiful! (Love the lipstick & lip lines.)
ReplyDeleteHow about a post touring us through your closet? You rock!
ReplyDeletethanks for all the sweet words babies! rock that moomoo, that shits comfy.
ReplyDeleteGet it, girl!!! Happy birthday. I love that dress!
ReplyDeleteTotal. Fun. Your outfit screams HAPPY!:D Hope your birthday is as happy, cheery, and easygoing as your outfit.
ReplyDeleteFor all the anonymous people who feel the need to be mean:

Your hair is WHERE IT'S AT, Sista!

To all the haters. "Judging a person does not define who they are. It defines who YOU are." Happy Birthday :) Rock it!
ReplyDeleteDid you find that on Pinterest?
DeleteI think you're beautiful and I love your clothes and spirit. Happy birthday!
ReplyDeleteEveryone needs a good party dress!! Woot!
ReplyDeleteSuch a fucking babe!
ReplyDeleteCami - I'm warming my hands on your glow. Happiest birthday, you are perfect just the way you are. Always, in all ways. Haters gonna hate. Glowers gonna glow.
ReplyDeleteWhole Lotta Love,
Anonymous xo
Yes, this is TOTALLY something I'd buy if I saw it in a thrift store, and then I'd try to rock it but fail, and then I'd love the fabric so much that I'd make throw pillows, and then my husband would say they don't match our decor and so they'd get demoted to "car pillows" and then the dog would chew them and I'd be so sad that all that glorious sunshine and rainbows fabric was ruined. Soooo.... I am so happy to see that you truely CAN rock it! You go girl.- jessica-
ReplyDeleteI have an assistant/nanny who is way younger than me. She is hip, creative, free-thinking, lovely and wears some weird shit that somehow works on her. The stick that has been lodged up my ass since having my fifth child is slowly being wedged free (she'll probably take it from me, decoupage it, add some feathers and make it into a hair accessory). I don't know what I'd do without her. Plus, she doesn't ask to borrow my JCrew.
ReplyDeleteMy point: you follow your bliss, sweetie. We needs people like you.
ReplyDeleteFUCK YES, CAMI!! I have style simmilar to yours. I've kind of put all my crazy vintage in the back of my closet and you inspire me to drag it out! You make me want to push my fashion game. I love your style so hard. Who cares what a bunch of aspirational suburban moms who read Dooce think about your steez. You are levels and levels beyond them. Love from Brooklyn, where style reigns!
ReplyDeleteMuumuu, honey, muumuu. Mu'umu'u if you are wanting to be particular.
ReplyDeleteActually I love the cut. It looks comfy. Although the top pic makes it look like you are rockin' a baby bump (green section). Are you???
Haha no I'm not pregnant....its called a gut...pretty normal.
ReplyDeleteAlso FUCK YES to all you lovers!
ReplyDeleteLove the dress ;)
ReplyDeleteHope you had a wonderful birthday!
Today is my birthday and I wish I had something so fun to wear! I always try to wear something special on my birthday, so I totally get this and don't understand the haters.
ReplyDeleteROCK ON CAMI!
Rofl.
